Riding across Germany on the most badass electric bikes out there – our Super73 saga

In case you missed it, a gaggle of Electrek‘s staff just spent several weeks in Germany attending the Eurobike and IAA Mobility trade shows to check out the latest in two-, three-, and four-wheeled electric transportation. While we were there, the fast-paced electric bicycle company Super73 was kind enough to loan us a pair of badass e-bikes that turned into our main wheels for the rest of the trip.

We took those things across Germany, toured the cities and the countryside, road the hell out of them, left them outside during intense rainstorms, may or may not have crashed one or both of them at various points during the trip, and basically did the best we could to push those bikes to their limits. They took everything we could throw at them and asked for more.

Tesla will make sure you are a good driver before giving you access to Full Self-Driving Beta

Elon Musk said that Tesla will use its telemetry data to make sure customers are “good” drivers before allowing them to access its Full Self-Driving Beta software.

This is a tricky situation since those customers already paid for the software.

GM extends pause of Bolt EV and EUV production to mid-October

Following previous news that it was halting all Bolt EV and EUV production until battery supplier LG can supply defect-free cells, General Motors (GM) has announced an extended pause into October. The decision follows a recall of Chevy Bolt EVs over battery issues resulting in twelve reported fires.

Wabtec unveils its battery-electric train following the first official purchase

Rail freight manufacturer Wabtec Corporation has officially unveiled the newest version of what it calls “the world’s first battery-electric freight train.” The electric train, known as FLXdrive Battery Locomotive, is no longer just a prototype and has made its official debut in Pittsburgh, PA, following Wabtec’s first sale of the locomotive earlier this week.

Will this metal recycling startup revolutionize the battery and clean energy sectors?

Most of the materials required for batteries and other clean energy technology are dirty to mine. They’re also mostly controlled by China. Can a recycling technology startup change that?

Electrek spoke with Megan O’Connor, cofounder and CEO of Nth Cycle, a Beverly, Massachusetts-based developer of a recycling technology that extracts critical metals from batteries for a second life, about how to enable a clean, domestic, and streamlined supply of critical minerals for the clean energy transition. Nth Cycle’s technology was developed at Harvard and Yale universities.

In April, Nth Cycle received $3.2 million in seed funding led by Boston-based clean energy venture capital company Clean Energy Ventures.

Volta Trucks confirms €37 million in Series B funding and over €600 million in Zero Truck soft pre-orders

UK EV startup Volta Trucks continues to chug forward towards series production of its Zero Truck, and has announced an additional €37 million in Series B funding to help. Alongside the newest funding announcement, Volta Trucks shared it has already received 2,500 soft pre-orders for its Zero Truck. Should all those pre-orders come to fruition, their value is over €600 million (~$705.5 million).
