Everyone wants an electric pickup truck. I want more electric 125cc motorcycles
If you follow the EV industry in North America, you’d be forgiven for thinking that the future of transportation revolves around electric SUVs and pickups. Every week seems to bring another teaser from a startup promising to reinvent the family car or truck. The latest electric SUVs, “coming soon” tiny trucks, lifestyle trucks, modular trucks, etc. Companies like Slate, TELO, and countless others have generated plenty of excitement, even if many of them still have everything left to prove.
Don’t get me wrong – I hope they succeed. We need more affordable electric vehicles. But after spending nearly two decades covering a specific part of the electric-vehicle space and a good chunk of that time traveling around the world to see how people actually get around, I can’t help but wonder if we’re chasing the wrong prize here.
